Who we are
About
Welcome to La Chitarra! I’m so excited to welcome everyone to this amazing space here in Bronxville, NY. My name is Randall and this restaurant is devoted to the collection of 20 years that myself and my partner have spent in kitchens, restaurants, vineyards and homes throughout our lives. We’ve devoted the majority of our life to eating and drinking around the dinner table.
I began my career here 25 years ago when Il Bacio Trattoria, right here in Bronxville opened. It ignited my love for food and restaurants. I followed my time there with a collection of restaurants, l’Impero with Scott Conant in Tudor City, Bocca di Lupo with Jacob Kennedy in London and Zuppa with David DiBari in Yonkers. I went on to spend many years with Eli Zabar on the upper east side and helped him open Eli’s Table and build one of New York City’s greatest wine collections. From there I went to work as wine director with Chef Cesar Ramirez at Chef’s Table at Brooklyn Fare. I followed this with 5 years as the beverage director of Eataly Flatiron, and I’ve just finished one of the heights of my career as the beverage director for the past two years with Chef Michael Anthony and Aretah Ettarh at Gramercy Tavern.
And now, I am coming home, back to where it started in Bronxville, with my partner. We hope to combine all of that we have lived and experienced into dining in this beautiful space. The name La Chitarra refers to Spaghetti alla Chitarra, a tradition of the area of our heritage, the Ciociaria in Frosinone, Italy. It is what our grandmothers and our mothers made our entire life for every special occasion. In fact they also began making this in the 1940s, in the Bronx at our family’s first restaurant called Alex and Henry’s. Our parents would make the pasta by hand, as we do here, and let it dry before bringing it downstairs and returning home to finish their homework. Our grandparents would then cook it for the neighborhood, which included the New York Yankees, in their restaurant in the Bronx. We have been locked in this passionate love for food and wine since we were born and there is no place more we'd like to share it with you than in our restaurant, La Chitarra.
